Why Music Is the Metaphysical Spice of Life
Have you ever noticed that music can completely change your mood in less than thirty seconds?
One song can make you want to dance around the kitchen while doing dishes.
Another can take you back to your first kiss.
A different one can remind you of someone you've lost.
And another can convince you that your morning commute is actually the opening scene of an action movie.
That's pretty amazing.
Think about it.
Music is invisible.
You can't hold it.
You can't bottle it.
You can't see it.
Yet it has the power to move millions of people emotionally at exactly the same moment.
If that's not metaphysical, I don't know what is.
The Soundtrack of Our Lives
Every one of us has a soundtrack.
Not the one on Spotify.
The one stored in our memories.
There's the song that reminds you of high school.
The one that played at your wedding.
The one you listened to after a heartbreak.
The one that makes you think of your grandparents.
The song that always gets played during road trips.
Music doesn't just accompany our lives.
It bookmarks them.
Sometimes I hear a song from thirty years ago, and suddenly I'm not standing in my living room anymore.
I'm sixteen years old again.
That's time travel...
Without needing a DeLorean.
Music Is Emotional Energy
I've often talked about energy here on Make Peace With Life.
Music is one of the purest forms of emotional energy we experience.
You don't need someone to explain a great song.
You feel it.
Fast songs can energize us.
Slow songs can calm us.
Powerful songs can inspire us.
Beautiful songs can heal us.
Funny songs can make us laugh.
Music speaks a language that doesn't require translation.
That's why people from completely different cultures can enjoy the same melody, even if they don't understand a single lyric.
The energy transcends words.
Isn't It Amazing That We All Like Different Music?
One of my favorite things about music is that no two people experience it exactly the same way.
I happen to love music that gets me moving.
Give me high energy.
Give me songs that make me want to get up, go for a walk, work out, drive with the windows down, or simply smile.
Someone else might prefer classical music.
Another person loves jazz.
Someone else can't get enough country.
Heavy metal.
Hip-hop.
Bluegrass.
Reggae.
Blues.
Electronic.
Opera.
Folk.
The list goes on forever.
And here's the beautiful part...
None of us are wrong.
Imagine If We All Liked the Same Music
Can you imagine a world where everyone only liked one genre?
Every radio station...
The same.
Every concert...
The same.
Every playlist...
The same.
How boring would that be?
The diversity of music is one of humanity's greatest gifts.
It reflects the diversity of humanity itself.
Just as we all have different personalities...
We have different soundtracks.
And that's something worth celebrating.
Music Brings People Together
Think about concerts.
Thousands of complete strangers singing the same lyrics.
Dancing together.
Laughing together.
Feeling the exact same emotional wave.
That's incredible.
For a few hours...
Politics disappear.
Careers disappear.
Stress disappears.
We're simply people enjoying the same energy.
Music creates community.
And I think the world could always use a little more of that.
Music Gives Us Permission to Feel
Sometimes we don't know how we're feeling until the right song comes on.
Suddenly...
The tears arrive.
Or the smile.
Or the laughter.
Or the motivation.
Music gives us permission to experience emotions we've been carrying around without even realizing it.
It's like therapy...
With a really good beat.
Music Is Everywhere
Music isn't reserved for concerts.
We use it all the time.
To motivate us while exercising.
To make housework less boring.
To help us focus while working.
To celebrate birthdays.
To dance with our children.
To fall asleep.
To road trip.
To worship.
To grieve.
To fall in love.
To heal.
It quietly accompanies nearly every important chapter of our lives.
Music Is Ancient Medicine
Long before streaming services...
Long before radios...
Long before CDs, records, or even written language...
People made music.
Around campfires.
With drums.
With voices.
With sticks.
With bones.
With anything that could create rhythm.
Why?
Because somewhere deep inside ourselves...
We instinctively knew that music makes us feel more alive.
Perhaps we've always understood that music feeds something much deeper than our ears.
It feeds our spirit.
Every Song Carries Energy
I don't believe songs are just collections of notes.
They're emotional containers.
Every song carries the energy of its creator.
The passion.
The heartbreak.
The joy.
The hope.
The imagination.
When we listen...
We connect with that energy.
That's why one song can lift your mood while another leaves you emotionally exhausted.
Be mindful of the soundtrack you give your life.
Choose music that helps you become the person you want to be.
My Challenge to You
This week...
Create a playlist that makes your soul smile.
Not one that someone else thinks is cool.
One that fills you with energy.
Include songs that:
- Make you dance.
- Make you laugh.
- Bring back wonderful memories.
- Inspire you.
- Fill you with hope.
- Encourage you to keep moving forward.
Then...
Play it often.
Let it become the soundtrack to your happiness.
Making Peace With Life
Music reminds us that life doesn't have to be perfectly in tune to be beautiful.
Sometimes the unexpected notes become the most memorable part of the song.
Life works the same way.
The highs.
The lows.
The quiet moments.
The loud celebrations.
They all belong.
Just like every instrument has its place in an orchestra...
Every person has their own unique rhythm in life.
So don't worry if your playlist looks different from someone else's.
Don't apologize for the music that makes your soul come alive.
Turn it up.
Dance a little.
Sing even if you're off-key.
Drive with the windows down.
Smile when your favorite song comes on.
And remember...
Music isn't just entertainment.
It's the metaphysical spice that adds flavor to our lives.
Without it...
Life would still be beautiful.
But with it...
Life has rhythm.
Life has emotion.
Life has movement.
Life has soul.
And that's one more wonderful way to Make Peace With Life.
