Are Inanimate Objects Really Inanimate?

Man Surrounded by inanimate Opjects

Are Inanimate Objects Really Inanimate?

Have you ever apologized to your computer?

Come on...

Be honest.

"Come on, buddy... just load one more page."

Or maybe you've pleaded with your car.

"Just get me home. You can fall apart in the driveway, but not now!"

Or perhaps you've encouraged your lawn mower, your coffee maker, your television remote, or that stubborn printer that seems to have developed an attitude.

It's funny, isn't it?

We're constantly told that these are inanimate objects.

They have no thoughts.

No feelings.

No consciousness.

And yet...

We talk to them as if they're listening.

Maybe we're all a little crazy.

Or...

Maybe there's something more going on.

Why Do We Talk to Things?

Think about it.

Nobody teaches us to speak to our belongings.

It just... happens.

We encourage our computers.

We negotiate with our GPS.

We compliment a beautiful guitar.

We thank our favorite coffee mug.

We tell our old cars they're doing a great job.

Some people even name them.

"Old Betsy still has another hundred thousand miles in her!"

If they're truly just lifeless collections of metal, plastic, and wires...

Why do we naturally interact with them like companions?

That's a fascinating question.

My Bowling Ball Was a Teammate

When I used to bowl regularly, something funny happened.

My bowling ball stopped being...

Well...

A bowling ball.

It became part of the team.

I'd talk to it.

"Come on... hook!"

"You've got this!"

"Just one more strike!"

Now, logically I knew that the bowling ball wasn't going to suddenly reply,

"Don't worry, Rob. I've got this frame covered."

Although that would've been pretty entertaining.

But somehow, speaking to it made me feel more connected to the game.

It became part of the experience.

Part of the energy.

Everything Carries Energy

From a metaphysical perspective, everything in the Universe carries energy.

People.

Animals.

Plants.

Water.

Mountains.

Crystals.

Even objects that appear lifeless.

Now...

Does that mean your toaster has hopes and dreams?

Probably not.

Although mine certainly dreams of burning bagels on occasion.

But perhaps objects hold something different.

Perhaps they carry energetic signatures.

After all...

Everything is made from the same fundamental building blocks of the Universe.

Atoms.

Energy.

Vibration.

Different arrangements...

Same cosmic ingredients.

Your Favorite Chair

Have you ever noticed you have a favorite chair?

Not because it's dramatically different.

It just...

Feels right.

Your favorite coffee mug.

Your favorite pen.

Your favorite hoodie.

Your favorite baseball glove.

Your favorite guitar.

Your favorite book.

You own similar objects.

Yet one somehow feels different.

Could part of that simply be memory?

Absolutely.

Could part of it also be the energetic relationship you've built with that object over time?

That's an interesting possibility.

Houses Feel Different Too

Have you ever walked into a house and immediately thought,

"This place feels warm and welcoming."

Or the opposite.

"Something feels... off."

Before you've even seen the kitchen.

Before you've looked at the bedrooms.

Before anyone has spoken a word.

You simply...

Feel something.

Is that architecture?

Lighting?

Your subconscious?

Or could places accumulate energy from the people who have lived there?

Metaphysics invites us to consider possibilities that science may not yet fully explain.

And I think that's part of the fun.

Our Cars Become Family Members

Let's be honest.

Many of us don't own a car.

We have a relationship with it.

We wash it.

We name it.

We thank it after a long road trip.

We get emotionally attached.

We remember where we drove it.

Who rode in it.

The adventures we shared.

When we finally sell it...

It almost feels like saying goodbye to an old friend.

That's a lot of emotion for something that's "just transportation."

Maybe Connection Creates Energy

Here's a thought.

What if the object itself isn't changing...

But our relationship with it is?

Perhaps the energy comes from connection.

Every memory.

Every experience.

Every adventure.

Every conversation.

Every joyful moment.

Slowly becomes associated with that object.

It transforms from a thing...

Into part of our story.

That's powerful.

Respect the Things That Serve You

One thing I try to practice is gratitude for the things that make my life easier.

My laptop helps me write.

My hiking boots have carried me through incredible places.

My bicycle has taken me on wonderful adventures.

My favorite coffee mug starts nearly every morning with me.

Whether or not they possess any form of consciousness...

Showing gratitude certainly changes my own energy.

And that's never a bad thing.

The Humor in It All

Of course...

There are limits.

If your vacuum cleaner starts giving relationship advice...

You may want to consult someone.

If your toaster begins discussing philosophy...

Definitely call somebody.

And if your bowling ball starts criticizing your release...

Well...

At least you'll finally know whose fault that split really was.

Humor reminds us not to take ourselves too seriously.

One of the joys of metaphysics is exploring big ideas without losing our sense of wonder—or our ability to laugh.

Making Peace With Life

Whether inanimate objects truly possess some form of soul...

Whether they simply carry energy...

Or whether our connection to them creates something meaningful...

One thing is certain.

The relationships we build with the world around us matter.

Perhaps the lesson isn't whether your favorite coffee mug is secretly conscious.

Perhaps it's learning to appreciate the countless things that quietly support your life every single day.

Your home.

Your books.

Your guitar.

Your hiking boots.

Your computer.

Your bowling ball.

Your car.

Even that coffee maker that somehow knows exactly how much caffeine you need on Monday mornings.

The more gratitude we have...

The richer life becomes.

And who knows?

Maybe the Universe smiles every time it hears someone lovingly say,

"Come on, old friend... one more mile."

Because whether the object hears you or not...

You hear yourself.

And every word of appreciation you put into the world becomes part of your own energy.

Maybe that's the real magic.

Maybe the greatest metaphysical mystery isn't whether inanimate objects are truly inanimate...

Maybe it's discovering how deeply connected we really are to everything around us.

And that...

...is another beautiful way to Make Peace With Life.
